Recommended Books on various Gurus/Deities?

Hi all,

This is coming from a newbie coming for a little less than a month in Oct 08. I have very little knowledge of various deities that are honored in ashrams and temples. Can you recommend any books on the subject?

I am mostly familiar with Lord Krishna and Hanuman, and guru Neem Karoli Baba as I have connected to devotees through the Krishna Das crowd.
Looking for places that I feel called to visit, but more knowledge of who I would like to offer love to would be great.
