Amritsar-Dharamsala-Manali itinerary advice

Hello indiamike friends,

I'm going to be in Amritsar next weekend. I'll be leaving Amritsar on Sunday, June 1st. I'm taking a course in Dharamsala that starts on June 9th, which leaves me with a week to plan.

Some ideas, in no particular order:
1) Go from Amritsar to Manali, stay in Manali for a few days, then head down to Dharamsala and arrive a few days before my course starts

2) Go from Amritsar to Chandigarh for a few days, then up to Dharamsala.

3) Go directly from Amritsar to Dharamsala and spend a week there chilling out and taking day trips. (I also understand there are lots of courses and such to take there, which I could find upon arrival.)

I would welcome any thoughts on the above options, as well as ideas for different itineraries.
