Post Pure Vegetarian Restaurants in Varanasi

Hi everyone!

I only have a few minutes left on the computer, but I wanted to post briefly to note some of the pure vegetarian restaurants that I've been too in Varanasi, all of which come highly recommended!

Halfah Restaurant, near Assi Ghat. One of the cleanest kitchens I've seen in all of India. Clean food, reasonable prices, and a very respectable staff. My lunch spot each day for khichari and green salad.

Ashok Restaurant, on the main road past ShivaLa Ghat. A good local spot, with dhaba-like furnishings and a simple atmosphere to match. For the price - a big meal won't set you back more than forty rupees - the food can't be beat, and they're always ready to prepare anything on the menu. Be sure not to miss the Kashmiri Naan for half the normal price!

Aroma Restaurant, near the main Godaulia junction. A huge and diverse menu, specializing in South Indian cuisine. Everything I have eaten here has been wonderful, if a bit expensive (expect to pay around one-hundred fifty rupees for one), and the view from the window-side tables, down to the main bazaar, is great for people watching. If you're in the mood for something spicy, try the chile-coriander uttapam!

Kesari Restaurant, near the main Godaulia junction, directly across from Ayyars Cafe. Haven't eaten here yet, but it gets rave reviews and from what I saw of the menu, the reviews seem justified. An impressive Chinese menu, with items I haven't seen anywhere else. A mix of locals and foreigners. I'll be there for dinner tomorrow night.

Ayyars Cafe, near the main Godaulia junction, directly across from Kesari. A no frills South Indian restaurant. Not much of a slection, being that it specializes in tiffin items, but the food comes quickly, the prices are right (again, forty rupees will fill your stomach), and most all of it is really very tasty. For those of you who are trying to avoid onions and garlic, the Sada Masala Dosa and the Sada Uttapam really hit the spot.

Enjoy!
