We are visiting Rajasthan (Jaipur, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer) in late December, and I wanted to get some advice on hiring a car/driver. We have decided to take a car from Jodhpur to Jaisalmer, so that we can stop and enjoy sites en route - although we'll be taking the train back (and going directly to Jaipur). We will also need a car on a couple of days in Jodhpur and Jaisalmer, to tour nearby sites.
1) We have a party of 6 (3 adults, 3 children). Are there larger cars like the Sumo available?
2) What would be the best way to reliably book a car during this time of year? I have heard that agencies that cater to foreign tourists over the Web are typically overpriced. Should I book directly with the hotels we're staying at? Or should we book with local travel agents? Is it advisable to book in advance?
