| Luxury hotels: Life in the fast lane In the evolution of the luxury hotel, a mantra for success is not so much survival of the fittest as survival of the fattest. Whereas most luxury hotels are happy to offer excellent service, award-winning cuisine, drop-dead gorgeous suites and views over private white-sand beaches, a distinct clutch of properties feel this is nowhere near enough, and step everything up several gears. They simply cannot help themselves when it comes to excess. They do not just want to be big and bold; they want to have multiples of everything: kitchens, sports cars, private jets, wine cellars.
